Rick Nickerson

Rick Nickerson, Director -- New Mexico Young Actors has been a vital force in Albuquerque since 1979, performing for over 15,000 children each year.  Producing original musicals like Country Dreaming, which brought attention to social acceptance of children with Down Syndrome, to recent Southwest premieres of  Pippi Longstocking, The Magic Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, Miss Nelson Is Missing,  The Stinky Cheese Man and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day our group has brought the very best to Albuquerque audiences. We are cultivating an appreciation for the arts in our community by presenting live stage productions at the historic KiMo Theatre and touring private and public schools around the state. Our director, Rick Nickerson, was awarded the 2005 Bravos Award for his contribution to Theater Arts by the Albuquerque Arts Alliance. This prestigious award brings recognition to the importance of children’s theater in our community.

We also have been responsible for assisting schools by reinforcing good citizenship with our Character Counts plays and toured for seven years with an original production of Let’s Stop Child Abuse.  The project received recognition from the County of Bernalillo and our troupe was invited to perform in Arizona and at a national convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

In April of 2005, director, Rick Nickerson, was awarded the Bravos Award for his contribution to Theater Arts by the Albuquerque Arts Alliance. This prestigious award brings recognition to the importance of children’s theater in our community. We will continue to bring the very best in children’s theater to our audiences.
